Kate Kantor

KATE KANTOR is a director, teacher, writer, dramaturg and performer of physical theatre. Since starting work as an actor, acrobat and teacher with TheatreWorks in the early 80's and training at the Victorian College of the Arts, Kate has been a member of many companies, including Primary Source, The Hunting Party, the Tea Bags Marching Band, Strange Fruit, Circus Oz, and Melbourne Playback Theatre.

In the late 80's, Kate worked as the assistant to Philippe Gaulier and Monika Pagneux in Paris for two years. Kate has worked with many diverse organisations, including Anthill Theatre, The Australian Opera, Polyglot, Rawcus, Frumpus, the Victorian College of the Arts, National Institute of Circus Arts and many schools and communities in both metropolitan and regional Australia.

Kate has worked extensively in community theatre, as the Artistic Director of The Return of the Sacred Kingfisher Festival at Ceres, and of the Moon Lantern Festival in North Richmond. Recently she worked as the dramaturg on Moon Safari By Bicycle, a creative development of a play for young people at the Victorian Arts Centre. Kate has a Masters degree in the pedagogy of clown and lectures in performance at Victoria University. Presently she is the Artistic Director of a three year arts residency at Mahogany Rise Primary School and the curator of a season of new works at the Richmond Theatrette.
